Weaning off sedation can be a gruiling process, and its trying for Ajay. Although not too sick, meds inside a body without food can be difficult. With all the secretions, suctioning has become quite the chore for the nurses, because it causes lots of vomiting. He's also had loose stools, another sign of withdrawal, but doing better this am. He had started PT on Tuesday and actually stood with Max asst of 2, just to start bearing weight again. Although extremely weak, he tolerated a step and then asked to stop.
His treatments on the CPAP are good, then bad, then good again...today's xray showed improvement but seems to quickly disapate. He is not strong enough to maintain full lung function or withhold air within the lung for more than a few hours. (It quickly deflates)With continued use of treatments, we are hopeful that he will be able to breathe more efficiently and without distress.
Goals for the next few weeks are to progress as tolerated in PT, increase lung function, move towards removing PIC line out as well as feeding tube later as his lung heals, and continue RT to break up and remove secretions.
Bless his heart! After all that he has been through, to hear that he is starting PT and actually took a step is just incredibly happy news. We continue to pray for Ajay, and appreciate so much the updates from you.
ReplyDeleteOh Carrie ~ I have such admiration for you and Paul, knowing how hard this has to be, as you continue to pray and fight for your new son's life. I'm certain you already know this... but KNOW that you are not in this alone and that SO many are stilling thinking of Ajay and praying for him every day. We will continue doing so and lifting up you and all of his caregivers, as well. He is such a special little boy, and I LOVE the meaning of his name, "Little Conquerer" and am staking claim on that meaning over his life and his current struggles. He is so precious and loved, and like you, we just keep asking and praying for another miracle!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Hugs,
~ Tanya
We will keep on praying Ajay through this recovery! God has indeed brought him thus far! And He is faithful to see him all the way until he walks back through your front doors at home sweet home. One baby step at a time, one small victory at a time, we are cheering Ajay on from the sidelines of Alabama...
ReplyDeleteAnd we are cheering mama and baba too...God's strong arms are holding you all!
Thank you so much for the updates so we can know how to pray!
